Raisin Bars

Ingredients

Bars
  • 1 c raisins
  • 2 c water
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1 c white
  • 1-3/4 c flour
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1/2 t nutmeg
  • 1/2 t cloves
  • 1/2 t cinnamon
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 c chopped nuts
  • Frosting
  • 1 c brown sugar
  • 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/3 c whole milk
  • 1 T light corn syrup (Karo)
  • 2 T butter
  • 1/4 t salt
  • Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
    2. Boil raisins in water for 10 minutes.
    3. Add butter to raisins when hot.
    4. Stir raisins and butter and allow to cool.
    5. Sift together all remaining dry ingredients (not nuts).
    6. Add dry ingredients and nuts to raisins and stir well.
    7. Pour into a jelly roll pan and bake at 350 F for 25 minutes.
    8. Remove and allow to cool.
    9. While bars are baking, make the frosting.
    10. Combine all frosting ingredients into a saucepan.
    11. Place on low to medium heat and bring to a boil.
    12. Boil for 1 minute.
    13. Remove from heat.
    14. Continuously stir the frosting until cool.
    15. Once bars and frosting are cool, spread frosting on bars.
